As always, we selected
15” wide ThermoFlex™ Plus T-shirt Vinyl using the same criteria
that we use for everything else that we offer: If we were still in the retail
business, what would we want?
ThermoFlex®
Plus combines competitive pricing along with a wide assortment of colors and
vinyl types, high flexibility, weeding ease, a soft hand and great “stick”.
Properly cared for, the ThermoFlex Plus vinyl lasts as long as the shirt.
The 15”
wide rolls are necessary for the Craft ROBO
Pro, described on the Graphtec cutter
plotter page of your tutorial, but also works splendidly on the larger
CE-5000-60.
Like the
CADtex vinyl described on the previous
page, we can fully recommend ThermoFlex® Plus.
ThermoFlex®
Plus - Matte Finish |
The matte finish of
this ThermoFlex® Plus is a “plus”, for two reasons. First, the
subdued color finish keeps your work from screaming “shiny plastic”.
This is highly desirable. Second, the matte finish allows the manufacturer to
more closely replicate standard team colors.
It’s
a fact of life that there is no such thing as matching colors. What you see,
is what the customer gets. For this reason, always have your customer approve
the color shade before you start a job.
This is a great day to day standard
vinyl and is easy to work with. It cuts cleanly, weeds easily (pulling the unneeded
vinyl off, before applying), has strong stick to fabric and also sticks to itself
(called “layering”) very strongly, as shown in the picture.
ThermoFlex® Plus matte
vinyl works on light and dark fabrics: cotton, poly-cotton blends, polyester,
spandex, wool, linen and some athletic mesh fabrics. It will NOT work
with nylon.
Always,
test your garment (especially something new to you) and vinyl before you cut
a large production run. With 32 years of prior retail experience, we can flat
tell you “take nothing for granted”.

If
your customer wants to “stand-out” the ThermoFlex® Plus Neon
colors gets the job done! The neon colors are just about bright enough to make
you feel like you need your sun glasses!
Most little girls, in particular,
(and some big girls) love the Neon Pink. We have seen some very good-looking
fashion designs, using the Neon Pink and Green.
ThermoFlex® Plus Neon
vinyl works on light and dark fabrics: cotton, poly-cotton blends, polyester,
spandex, wool, linen and some athletic mesh fabrics. It will NOT work
with nylon.
You can NOT
layer neon colors. It will not stick to itself nor will other vinyl’s
stick to it. However, neon vinyl will stick to other types of vinyl.

ThermoFlex®
Plus – Antique Silver & Old Gold |
As
the words “Antique” and “Old” imply, these gold and
silver colors are subtle and subdued. They are perfect for the customers that
want a gold or silver color, but don’t want to look like a “flashing
billboard”.
These are two colors that
“sell themselves”. If your customer really likes the look, that
is what they will want and nothing else will really turn them on.
Like we state throughout
this tutorial, “samples sell”! As a garment decorator, you are working
with a 100% visual medium. If you are new, you will quickly find out that most
customers have just about zero imagination. If they can’t see it, they
can’t imagine it (and you might not make a sale)!
ThermoFlex® Plus Antique
Silver and Old Gold works on light and dark fabrics: cotton, poly-cotton blends,
polyester, spandex, wool, linen and some athletic mesh fabrics. It will NOT
work with nylon.

ThermoFlex®
Plus – Metal Flake |
When
your customer wants “flash and dash”, show them samples of ThermoFlex®
Plus Metal Flake. This vinyl has a shimmery effect (it doesn’t flake off,
that’s just the name) that makes it a real stand out.
Words and numbers really stand out.
The material also adds “punch” to specialty designs, like tattoo-type
graphics and Harry Potter type graphics like Unicorns, Griffins, etc.
This is the most expensive T-shirt
vinyl that we currently offer (figure $3.50 per foot) and you need to price
your work accordingly. Never be afraid of charging fair prices for your work.
Also remember that creativity adds
“sizzle” that helps sell. Spend some time finding or creating some
really jaw-dropping graphics for your samples. Extraordinary work often makes
prices look ordinary.
The most popular Metal Flake colors
are: Silver, gold and red (in that order).
ThermoFlex™ Plus Metal Flake
works on light and dark fabrics: cotton, poly-cotton blends, polyester, spandex,
wool, linen and some athletic mesh fabrics. It will NOT work
with nylon.

fit into your game plan right now, you may still need the ability to put names
and numbers on garments. The next page
of your tutorial covers Flock letters and numbers.
